St. Charles Catholic Church
The idea of a Catholic chruch in Hartland was first conceived in 1863. Three
acres of land were purchased at the top of Hill Street for the purpose of
building a church. The land lay idle for forty years before construction began
in 1906. The church was completed in 1908. Concrete steps leading up the hill
to the church were built on the south side of Hill Street about one-third of
the way up the street.
As there was no more room for expansion on the hill, thirteen acres of land was
purchased in 1952. Five years later, the congregation of St. Charles Catholic
Church moved into their new church on Renson Road.
The original building was razed in the early 1980’s and the property again lay idle until condominiums were built on the site in
2001. The stairs leading up to the church were removed at that time.
