The Opera House
Throughout the years, the Opera House has hosted a roller skating rink, garage,
barbershop, farm implement store, dance hall, bus depot, shoe repair,
confectionary and newspaper office to name a few!
Built in 1895, the building was originally known as the “Frisbie Block”. Measuring 60 x 60 ft, the Frisbie Block was the largest public facility at
that time in Waukesha County. The basement contained a kitchen with dining
facilities for 150 people. The second floor was an open hall with a seating
capacity of 800. The first floor contained three storefronts.
The building was sold to Dr. John Overbaugh in 1905 and at that time the name
was changed to the Opera House. The building was destroyed by fire in December,
1972.
