101-107 North Avenue / Schwager’s Corner
This historic site has the distinction of being designated Lot #1 of Block #1,
the first lot plattted in 1842 in what is known today as the Village of
Hartland. The site was used as a post office, bank and general store until it
was purchaed by William Schwager in 1906, who subsequently opened a hardware
store. Tearing down the original structure in 1914, Schwager erected a new,
two-story building which was destroyed by fire in 1929. The property remained
in the Shwager family, but a new structure was not buit until 1952. Because of
the longevity of ownership, the community has always referred to this corner as
“Schwager’s Corner.”
