101-107 North Avenue / Schwager’s Corner

This historic site has the distinction of being designated Lot #1 of Block #1, the first lot plattted in 1842 in what is known today as the Village of Hartland. The site was used as a post office, bank and general store until it was purchaed by William Schwager in 1906, who subsequently opened a hardware store. Tearing down the original structure in 1914, Schwager erected a new, two-story building which was destroyed by fire in 1929. The property remained in the Shwager family, but a new structure was not buit until 1952. Because of the longevity of ownership, the community has always referred to this corner as “Schwager’s Corner.”
