Munnagle’s Dairy
Arriving in Hartland in 1918, James and Christine Munnagle purchased this
property and established a dairy business. The building was a rectangular
one-and-one-half story stucco building that ran parallel to West Capitol Drive.
It had a ground floor basement on the west, living quarter in the middle and a
variety store to the east.
Water from the Village Pump was hauled daily to be used at the dairy. Bottles
were stored in a cellar built into the hill where the small parking lot on the
west end now stands.
Jim Munnagle continued his dairy and milk run until about 1940. The variety
store sold dishes, embroidery floss, ribbon, candy, etc. and closed in 1948.
If you have any historic pictures (preferably pre-WWII) that you would like to
share with the Hartland Historical Society,
