142 West Capitol Drive / Indian Trading Post
According to local legend, the original section of this building was in
existence before Wisconsin became a state in 1848. The kitchen and underground
cellar, the oldest parts of the buiding, were believed to have been an Indian
Trading Post in the early 19th century. Many Indian arrowheads have been found
on the property. The original section boasts three foot-thick fieldstone walls.
What was once an outside stairway led up to a basket shop on the hill.
