221 Cottonwood / The Coakley House
The 1842, Catherine and Timothy Coakley purchased property from the Stephen
Warren family and built a small cabin to house their family of four children:
Catherine, George, Charles and William. The current house, built on the
property circa 1876, was inherited by their son Charles. When Charles died in
1937, the home was bought by his nephew, George Jr. (son of Charles’ brother, George) who, with his wife, Catherine Guy, moved into the house
shortly after Charles’ death. George Jr. died in 1954, and Catherine lived there until 1991, keeping
the property in one family for 149 years. An unusual seventeen steps separate
the first floor from the second.
