140 Cottonwood / The Adams Building
The Pal O Pak Company, originally known as Palmer-Wittkopt, began business in
this building in 1932. The company manufactured cellulose bedding, packing, padding and fibrous
materials. Shortly after incorporation, Pal O Pak moved across the street to
135 Cottonwood Avenue. Many Hartland residents remember bringing old newspapers
to Pal O Pak to be used in the manufacturing of these insulating products.
This building also housed the Electroforming Company when it began in 1940. Electroforming later became Hartland Plastics, makers of molds for the plastic industry. Hartland Plastics moved their factory tot he northwest corner of West Capitol Drive and Cottonwood Avenue, then many years later moved again to a new facility on Maple Avenue.
