252-256 West Capitol Drive / Trapp Filling Station

Built around 1933, this structure was built as a gasoline station complete with living quarters upstairs. The gasoline station, garage and office were located in the eastern portion of the lower story of the building. A free-standing round arch of stone at the west end of the main facade marks a flight of exterior stairs leading to the entrace of the living quarters located on the west facade. The foundation and lower story of the two story structure is made of stone and the upper story is stucco and applied half-timbering. As a combination gasoline station and residence, the Trapp Filling Station is an unusual building type.
