163 E. Capitol Drive / Dr. John H. Overbaugh House
Dr. John Overbaugh was born in Merton Township in 1872. Educated locally, he
studied medicine in Milwaukee and returned to Hartland in 1899 to assist Dr.
Henry Nixon. He estrblished hi own practice in 1901 and made house calls in one
of the first automobiles in the Village.
In 1926, the existing home was moved to the vacant lot in the rear and a new
house was built. Dr. Overbaugh practiced medicine in the Woodman Hall building
across the street and moved his office to his home when it was completed. Dr.
Overbaugh died in 1930 when he was hit and killed by a train at the Lakeside
Crossing.
