140-142 E. Capitol Drive / Jacob Blitch House
Jacob Blitch, an early day barber and tailor, became the first Village Clerk
after Hartland’s incorporatin in 1892. In 1905, the lot and building were purchased from the
Blitch estate, and in 1906, the building was moved from its original location
just west of the Bark River to where it currently stands.
The Blitch building was enlarged and remodeled and for a time was known as the
Central Hotel. Mrs. A.G. Erickson also operated a rooming house in this
building. Many of her boarders were teachers who worked down the street at the
Hartland School.
