Rowell Farmhouse

In 1870, the Rowells built a large farmhouse to accomodate their growing poultry farm. Mark B. BRowell’s son, also named Mark, operated the Rowell Turkey Farm, an enoumous business that purchased up to 875 turkeys a day and employed a dozen men to take care of some 3,000 birds.

The farm prospered between 1884 and 1886 until cholera disease made the turkey farm an unprofitable business. The Rowell farm encompassed the area around Renson Road. The farmhouse burnt to the ground in 1922 while the family stood by helplessly and watched.
